Cumberland County College named to Victory Media’s 2017 Military Friendly® Schools list

Friday, November 11, 2016
Cumberland County College has been designated a 2017 Military Friendly® School by Victory Media, the leader in successfully connecting the military and civilian worlds. The Military Friendly® Schools designation provides service members and their families with transparent, data-driven ratings about post-military education and civilian career opportunities.

The Military Friendly® Schools designation is awarded to the country’s top colleges, universities, community colleges and trade schools that are doing the most to embrace military students, and dedicate resources to ensure their success both in the classroom and after graduation.

“We are proud of this designation and proud to serve our active duty and veteran students,” said Cumberland County College President Dr. Yves Salomon-Fernandez. “We thank them for their service and are committed to providing them the highest level of service and an exceptional college experience.”

Institutions across the nation competing for the elite Military Friendly® School designation are evaluated using public data and by completing a survey to assess the institution’s ability to meet thresholds in categories such as student retention, graduation and employment outcomes, degree advancement, and loan repayment.

Cumberland County College will be showcased along with other 2017 Military Friendly® Schools in the annual Guide to Military Friendly® Schools, special education issues of G.I. Jobs® and Military Spouse Magazine, and on militaryfriendly.com

This week, Cumberland County College celebrated the dedication of a Veterans Resource Center, designed specifically with the needs of military students in mind. Reserved exclusively for Cumberland’s veteran students, the Veterans Resource Center houses two dedicated study rooms with four computers and a printer; a lounge area with a TV; and a break room furnished with a microwave and a refrigerator that was donated by the Fleet Reserve Association of Atlantic City. A campus life organization called the “Freedom Fighters Club” provides veteran students with fellowship and camaraderie.
