Monday, July 23, 2018

The Cumberland County College Board of Trustees recently approved the appointment of Shelly O. Schneider, Ed.D. as the college’s interim president, beginning July 20.

Schneider fills the top position vacated by Dr. Yves Salomon-Fernandez who, after serving as Cumberland’s president since June 2016, accepted a position as president of Greenfield Community College in Greenfield, Massachusetts.

“It is an honor and a privilege to be able to serve the county again in this capacity,” Schneider said. “Cumberland County College has a tremendous staff and valued students. I look forward to continuing the services the college has to offer our future leaders.”

Schneider is well acquainted with the workings of the college as she also served as the 2015-2016 interim president of Cumberland County College following the appointment of Dr. Thomas Isekenegbe as president of Bronx Community College in New York.

“Shelly is an outstanding individual who has worked hard to improve educational opportunities throughout her long career,” said Donna M. Perez, Cumberland County College Board of Trustees Chair. “Her previous experience as interim college president means that she will be able to hit the ground running and seamlessly maintain college operations at the highest standards for our students and the community we serve.”

In her long career as an educational leader in the region, Schneider has served in a variety of roles, including those of a classroom teacher, guidance counselor, administrator, and adjunct professor.

Schneider served as Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction for Millville Public Schools from 1999 to 2004, after which she became the superintendent of Millville’s school district for six years. She was the Interim Assistant Superintendent of Vineland Public Schools in 2012, and Interim Superintendent of Commercial Township Public Schools from 2013 to 2015. Most recently, Schneider has served as a visiting professor for Stockton University’s Organizational Leadership Ed.D. program.

A lifelong resident of Cumberland County, Schneider has been active in numerous civic and professional organizations, including Cumberland Empowerment Zone, Millville Kiwanis, Levoy Theatre Preservation Society, Child Family Center, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, and several others. The Vineland resident is currently a board member of the Inspira Health Network.

In 2015, Schneider was inducted into the Cumberland County Women’s Hall of Fame. Other honors include: Millville Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Month, Soroptimist Ruby Award, Big Sister of the Year-Cumberland and Salem counties, CCASA Administrator of the Year, Alpha Delta Kappa Educator of the Year, and Millville Public Schools Administrator of the Year.
