Albert A. Fralinger Jr., a former chair of the Cumberland County College Board of Trustees and past Foundation board member, has been inducted into The Citadel School of Engineering’s Academy of Engineers.

Fralinger was selected for the monumental legacy of Fralinger Engineering PA and its impact on southern New Jersey, Delaware and Pennsylvania. In addition, Fralinger was honored as an example of resilience and persistence in building one’s own firm while working a full-time job, and for his impact on engineering through the incredible number of engineers within his family.

The Citadel School of Engineering Academy of Engineers highlights engineering leaders, from both public and private sectors, who have enjoyed substantial success in their professional lives and made significant contributions to their communities.

A lifelong resident of the Bridgeton area, Fralinger earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from The Citadel Military College of South Carolina in 1955. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army.

While waiting for orders to enter the Army, he worked as an engineering aide in the Cumberland County Engineering Department. He assisted the county engineer with calculations, drafting and preparation of plans and specifications for road and bridge projects, construction inspection and field crew survey chief. He served as an Infantry Officer in the 5th Armored Division from 1955 until 1957, and was released from active duty as a first lieutenant and began his civil engineering career in New Jersey.

Following 10 years with the New Jersey Department of Transportation, Fralinger was employed as Bridgeton’s Director of Public Works and City Engineer for 20 years. He would go on to acquire a number of firms to grow the Fralinger firm—which now employs 50 people.

Fralinger continues to be devoted to the betterment of Cumberland County and surrounding regions through his civic involvement and professional services as a professional engineer, planner and land surveyor. He presently serves as Chairman of the Board, Chief Financial Officer and major stockholder of Fralinger Engineering, PA.
