President's Biography

Shelly O. Schneider, Ed.D. was appointed the interim president of Cumberland County College by its Board of Trustees on July 12, 2018.

Dr. Schneider is well acquainted with the workings of the college, having served in the same capacity from July 2015 to June 2016 when Cumberland County College searched for a new president.

In her 40-year career as an educational leader in the region, Dr. Schneider served in a variety of roles, including those of a classroom teacher, guidance counselor, administrator, and adjunct professor.

Dr. Schneider is noted as the driving force behind Millville’s Lakeside Middle School, an innovative conversion of the old Prudential Insurance building that became a new model of educational design. She created the curriculum, oversaw the renovation and became the school’s first principal in 1999.

Dr. Schneider served as Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction for Millville Public Schools from 1999 to 2004, after which she became the superintendent of Millville’s school district for six years. She was the Interim Assistant Superintendent of Vineland Public Schools in 2012, and Interim Superintendent of Commercial Township Public Schools from 2013 to 2015. She has also taught at Rowan University as an adjunct professor and served as a supervisor for clinical practice candidates. Most recently, Dr. Schneider has served as a visiting professor for Stockton University’s Organizational Leadership Ed.D. program.

A lifelong resident of Cumberland County, Dr. Schneider’s strong commitment to the community led to involvement in numerous civic and professional organizations, including Cumberland Empowerment Zone, Millville Kiwanis, Levoy Theatre Preservation Society, Child Family Center, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, and several others. The Vineland resident is currently a board member of the Inspira Health Network.

In 2015, Dr. Schneider was inducted into the Cumberland County Women’s Hall of Fame, and now serves on its board. Other honors include: Millville Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Month, Soroptimist Ruby Award, Big Sister of the Year-Cumberland and Salem counties, CCASA Administrator of the Year, Alpha Delta Kappa Educator of the Year, and Millville Public Schools Administrator of the Year.

“It is an honor and a privilege to be able to serve the county again in this capacity,” said Dr. Schneider. “Cumberland County College has a tremendous staff and valued students. I look forward to continuing the services the college has to offer our future leaders.”

Dr. Schneider’s contract as interim president began July 20, 2018 and extends through June 30, 2019.
