Let’s get acquainted at the college’s open house this Saturday

By President Dr. Thomas Isekenegbe

We’re very proud of the outstanding programs and services offered by the knowledgeable and caring staff at Cumberland County College. And we want residents of all ages to know about the opportunities for success that exist at their local community college. That’s why the college is holding an Open House this Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon.

There will be the usual fun things associated with open houses – free food and lots of music and entertainment – but this is really a chance for residents to discuss their career goals and the many aspects of beginning at a college, such as admission procedures and applying for financial aid.

Professors will be present to discuss their areas of expertise one-on-one with our visitors. They will even give demonstrations of the cutting-edge equipment in our modern laboratories. SimMan is a star in the Paul Navone Healthcare Education Center. This simulated person has a pulse and groans when he’s in distress until CCC’s nursing students come to the rescue.

There are many reasons for residents to become acquainted with the college at our Open House. For those who are apprehensive about beginning or returning to college, this will be a friendly, relaxed setting to discuss future goals and how to achieve them. Our professors and staff really enjoy leading students on the path to success. And students will be on hand to discuss their experiences at CCC - their challenges and triumphs.

Residents who are not sure how they can fit college into their busy schedules can get information on how this is possible with flexible course scheduling and several distance learning options such as Internet courses. High school students may be interested in sports, club activities and the “career ladders” that enable students to earn an associate’s degree in fields such as criminal justice, health care or education and then continue on to earn a bachelor’s or master’s degree at the on-campus Shirlee and Bernard Brown University Center. Representatives will be available to discuss any of these options at the Open House.

Some demonstrations will include “throwing” a clay vase, interactive computer forensics, programming in 3D, massage therapy, fun with physics, the distance learning experience, the TV studio and the interactive radiography lab. There will be representatives from the Alumni Association, Arts and Humanities, Business, Computer Science, Criminal Justice, Education, CCC’s Facebook page, Phi Theta Kappa, the Salem Community College/CCC Sustainable and Nuclear Energy Technology programs, the University Center, Athletics and Student Activities, Student Support Services, Testing and Tutoring, Summer Academy for Kids, and many others.

So if you want to meet a lot of interesting people and get your questions answered concerning college and how it fits into your future. And if you want to have some fun touring CCC’s park-like campus that features modern technology. Attend our Open House this Saturday. We think you’ll discover that you don’t have to travel far to go further in life; there are so many opportunities to succeed at the college that’s close to your home. See you on Saturday!
