ESL: How to Apply

Enrollment Process

Please follow this procedure to enroll:

Do you identify yourself as a second-language student? If so, please immediately refer to step 1 (below). If you are not sure, please refer to these 4 questions:

Do you speak a language other than English in your home? Are you more comfortable using a language other than English? Did you attend high school in a country other than the United States? Do you find it difficult to communicate in spoken or written English?
If you answered "Yes" to any of these questions, you may be a good candidate for Cumberland County College's ESL Program.

STEP 1. First, report to the Enrollment Services Office (located in the Enrollment Services Building across from the bookstore). Complete the college application.

STEP 2. If you think that you may be eligible for Financial Aid (money from the government to help pay for courses), please contact the financial aid office at Cumberland to set up an appointment (you must be a legal resident or citizen of the U.S. to qualify for financial aid). This process may take 8 to 10 weeks, so make your appointment early!!! You may also use the link below if you want to apply for financial aid online yourself. STEP 3. Next, contact the Success Center (also located in the Enrollment Services Building) and register to take the "ESL Placement Test." (It is important to specify that you wish to take the ESL PLACEMENT TEST! The Success Center gives several different tests, and you want to be sure to take the correct one!!) NOTE: If you wish to be tested in MATH, you must inform the test administrator of this when you register.
