Intro to Acrylic Painting

5 WEEK CLASS

Students must bring materials listed below. Limit 12.

Week 1

Explore color theory by completing a color wheel.

Week 2 

Plan a composition and make a chalk pastel study of a still-life set up by the instructor

Week 3 – 5

 Painting a still-life, under painting, elements of painting such as value, contrast and color will discussed by the instructor and used by students for executing a finished painting.   

MATERIALS: 

  • 16 x 12 canvas board for color-wheel
  • 1 sheet 16 x 20 gray pastel or charcoal paper 
  • 1 chalk pastel set (12 colors) 
  • 1 - 16 x 20 stretched canvas. 
  • Acrylic paints:
    • titanium white (large tube),
    • smaller tubes for the following:
      • alizarin crimson,
      • cadmium red med.,
      • burnt umber,
      • cadmium yellow medium
      • ultramarine
      • cerulean
  • Brushes 1” flat 
  • several rounds in different sizes 
  • water containers
  • rags

 

Drawing 

5 WEEK

This course focuses on the development of observational skills and drawing techniques, employing a range of drawing media and subject matter. Students in this course will develop both technical and creative abilities to material and subject matter. All skill levels welcome. Critiques and discussions are integrated into course. Students will work from a still life, set up by the Instructor.
