Spring Workshops

Non-credit We're pleased to annouce that our Spring 2018 classes will be held on the first floor of the Arts and Innovation Center, new home to Clay College, at 321 High St. Millville. We're also happy to say that the new offerings include the Fine Arts in addition to our pottery courses, workshops and kids classes.

 

Pottery Wheel Workshop

MAIN CLAY STUDIO

Create a piece of pottery on the pottery wheel. With the help of an instructor students will learn how to "throw" a pot. The student will choose a glaze, and the staff will fire your piece. No experience necessary. Materials included. Limit 10.

Beaded Jewelry Series with Nicki Russo

Ring Around the Rosie

Cost: $25 + $15 for kit

Create the Ring Around the Rosie bracelet using one and two hole beads. Learn how to thread a beading needle, how to start/end threads, how to read a beading pattern to create and attach floral units and finish by attaching a clasp. All materials needed will be supplied in a kit that includes high quality Czech glass beads: Lentils, pinch, rondelles, button flowers and Japanese seed beads. You will have a choice of kits in three-color palettes. Kits are $15 each and will be available at the start of class. The bracelet will be finished during class, and the printed pattern is yours to keep for your personal use. Local bead artist Nicki Russo created the pattern. Be prepared to work with small beads, and handle small items and needles. Reading glasses recommended. Class is beginner friendly, no experience needed! Limit to 10.

 

Arching Daggers

Create the dramatic Arching Daggers bracelet using one and two hole beads. The bracelet undulates around the wrist using 2-hole daggers, 2-hole triangles, large round beads and seed beads. 4 color choice kits will be available for students to purchase for their bracelet. The kits are $15 each and will be available at the start of class. Learn how to thread a beading needle, how to start/end threads, how to read a beading pattern and finish by attaching a clasp. The bracelet will be finished during class. The printed pattern will be yours to keep. Be prepared to work with small beads, and handle small items with needles. Reading glasses are recommended. Beaded Earrings

Create beaded earrings on an earring hoop using bugle, cylinder, and seed beads. The hoops are then attached to simple shepherd hook ear wires. Three color choice kits will be available for students to select the one they would like to create. Cost of the kits is $15 each and will be available at the start of the class. Learn how to thread a beading needle, how to start/end threads, and how to read a beading pattern. The project will be finished during class, and the printed pattern is yours to keep for your personal use. Be prepared to work with small beads, and handle small items and needles. Mosaics

Learn how to transform ordinary objects into colorful works of art with mosaics. Each student will create a beautiful mosaic for the wall or for a colorful trivet for your table. Work with mosaic artist Susan Zipper for this fun and easy art form.  Students are encouraged (but not necessary) to bring found objects, shells, buttons, or anything that you collect to include in your mosaic design. Materials included. Limit 15.

 

Printmaking

Using the technique of linoleum cut, create a set of printed note cards, bookmarks or a series of prints for your wall. Students are encouraged to bring personal designs, inspiring images and patterns to reproduce to their linoleum block. No experience necessary. Materials included. Limit 15.

 

Pottery Easter Egg

Hop over to the Clay College and decorate your own pottery egg! Each person will be given a hand wheel thrown egg made by one of our potters from the Clay College. It is up to you to uniquely decorate your ceramic egg with paint and stamps. Materials included. Limit 15

 

Mosaic Tray

CHIP AND DIP

Create a hand built platter with a dipping bowl using a flat slab of clay. The student will press stamps, lace and other various textures to make a one-of-a-kind serving platter. No experience needed for this popular and fun project! Materials included. Limit 15. 

 

Mom and Me

Butterfly Feeder

Create a unique piece of garden art and attract butterflies to your yard!  Students will paint or choose a glaze for their piece.  You will be called to pick up your piece after it is fired in the kiln. Materials included. Limit 15.
