SUMMARY Provide assistance to Chemistry instructors in the preparation and presentation of laboratory work and instruct students in assigned laboratories. This is a part time, 12 month position.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Responsible for assessment activities, data collection and documentation in the Chemistry courses.

Maintain detailed inventory of Chemistry course supplies and instructional materials. Work with Chemical Hygiene Officer for purchase orders. Work closely with the Chemical Hygiene Officer and Science Safety Officer to ensure compliance with the Chemical Hygiene Plan.

Insure that all laboratory equipment is maintained and in good operating condition. Assist Science Fair director and committee with the planning, coordination, and implementation of the Annual Science Fair. This includes communication with the various schools and local industries and other duties as assigned by the Science Fair Director.

Attend assigned lectures.

Provides laboratory preparation for labs held in the Science building.

Coordinates with faculty and staff to provide proper assistance and support to students.

Provide tutorial assistance to students as necessary.

Ensure the needs of the student are met by maintaining a commitment to and being an example of service excellence.

Performs other related duties as assigned by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Bachelor's degree in chemistry or related field; experience in teaching or instructional assistance; experience in the field of computer science or alternate instructional methodologies. Knowledge of laboratory procedures. Preferred: Laboratory supervision; assessment experience, community college work experience. Strong background in chemistry.

Must be computer literate with a working knowledge of Internet, e-mail, WordPerfect, Lotus and/or Microsoft Office, or the ability to learn.

LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general educational periodicals, professional journals, or technical procedures. Ability to write reports. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of students, faculty and the general public.

REASONING ABILITY Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
