I often tell others, “I’m working my dream job!” teaching the freshman composition sequence, English Composition I and II. It is satisfying to help students improve their writing because I know it is a skill they will use throughout their careers. Our students are serious about learning and strive to do well; this inspires me to bring my best to the classroom, engaging them through critical thinking and writing.

I earned my first college degree at age 40, so I am cognizant of the challenges faced by our many non-traditional students, and I look forward to helping them achieve their goal of a college degree. Likewise, I encourage our traditional students to “stay the course” and complete their degrees before the responsibilities of life create additional challenges to success. In fact, the diversity of our student body brings richness to classroom discussion, with varying perspectives adding to the caliber of discourse.

In addition to teaching, I get excited about gardening and food preservation, reading, and working on home projects with my husband and best friend of 34 years, Roy. Our five grown children who all started at community college, are successful and accomplished, but most importantly, they are our closest friends.
