One Book-One College Author Visit

Thursday, August 6, 2015
Cumberland's One Book-One College reading campaign will be highlighted by a visit from Christina Baker Kline, author of "Orphan Train" at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 28 in the Guaracini Arts Center.

“Orphan Train” is a gripping tale of upheaval and resilience, friendship and second chances. Between 1854 and 1929, so-called orphan trains ran regularly from cities on the East Coast to the farmlands of the Midwest, carrying thousands of abandoned children whose fates would be determined by luck or by chance.

Kline was born in Cambridge, England, and raised there as well as in the U.S.  She is a graduate of Yale, Cambridge, and the University of Virginia. She has taught fiction and nonfiction writing, poetry and English literature at numerous institutions. She also donates her time and editing skills to a variety of organizations in New Jersey and Maine.
