Cumberland County College is hosting a Professional Development Fall Business Institute October 15–18, 2018. The Business Institute offers professional development programs for businesses and employees of Cumberland County.

Fall 2018 Business Institute

This Institute will focus on success in the workplace. Topics include:

  • 10 Soft Skill You Need to Succeed In Business (Monday, October 15 from 8:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m.)
  • Business Leadership Training (Tuesday-Thursday, October 16, 17, and 18 from 8:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m.)

10 Soft Skill You Need to Succeed In Business

The meaning of Soft Skills can sometimes be difficult to describe. It can be that unique attribute or characteristic that facilitates great communication. It can be the special way that you show confidence in a challenging situation. These and other events can become more easily managed with this great workshop. 

With our 10 Soft Skills You Need workshop participants will begin to see how important it is to develop a core set of soft skills. By managing and looking at the way people interact and seeing things in a new light, your participants will improve on almost every aspect of their career.

Business Leadership Training

This three-day workshop is a tool for your leadership development. It is designed to help you create and accomplish your personal best and to help you lead others to get extraordinary things done.

What Topics are Covered?

  • Learning organizations
  • Peter Senge’s learning disciplines
  • What leadership is and is not (including servant leadership)
  • Kouzes and Posner’s five leadership practices
  • Core skills like communication, body language, delegation, meetings, and time management
  • Understanding the trust cycle and building trust
  • Managing change
  • SWOT analysis and problem-solving
  • Giving effective, constructive feedback
  • Building good relationships

What Will Students Learn?

  • Define your role as a manager and identify how that role differs from other roles you have had.
  • Understand the management challenge and the new functions of management.
  • Discover how you can prepare for and embrace the forces of change.
  • Identify ways to get you and your workspace organized and get a jump on the next crisis.
  • Identify your leadership profile and explore ways to use this knowledge to improve your success as a manager.
  • Enhance your ability to communicate with others in meetings and through presentations.
  • Create an action plan for managing your career success.


Who Can Attend?

Individuals are eligible to participate in the Business Institute if they are:

  • Employed by an NJ Employer
  • An NJ Resident
  • 18 years or older

Certificates of Completion from Cumberland County College will be awarded to individuals who complete each course.

Tuition: No Cost!

Tuition is funded by NJLWD grants.
